What to do for dandruff in India (how I got rid of from it!)

I know dandruff is one of the biggest problem for both men and women. Though mostly men are suffering on it.

You might have gone to a dermatologist to get rid of dandruff but the treatment he given never worked!

So you may think anti-dandruff treatments never work!!

But that’s not true.

Why do anti-dandruff products never work? Because we don’t have enough patience. We want to switch between products to products quickly.

So, before reading this post, make some changes in your mindset. The result will definitely come, but it will require dedication and patience.

All the tips I will give here, you have to follow very strictly.

So, take a pen and paper and write down the important points.

What to do for dandruff in India

Wash your scalp

Hair washing for dandruff

This is very important. Our hair catch a lot of dust when we go outside. So, if you just washing your head at the morning before going to the office and never wash it again after coming back, you have a very high risk to catch the dandruff.

Don’t afraid to wash your head with normal tap water. Never use hot water. I do always wash my head twice a day. Once after waking up with a natural DHT blocking shampoo. 

Though, when I had dandruff, I washed my head with a 2% ketoconazole shampoo. I wash it for the second time in the evening with just water.

So, make it a routine. Always keep your scalp fresh and dust free.

Shampoo Almost Daily

We have a strong belief that we should not shampoo daily or frequently. That’s not true! I do shampoo 6-7 times a week. That means almost everyday.

When we talk about special shampoo for dandruff treatment, you should use that for 4-5 times a week. 

Once you get rid of the dandruff still keep using that shampoo for a minimum of 1-2 times every week with any mild shampoo that you use the day you don’t use that special shampoo.

Or, use a naturally made shampoo 5-7 times a week with helpful ingredients for your hair and with no harsh chemicals.

Never use those commercial shampoos you watch on the TV. I don’t think I need to utter a name here, you must know which shampoos I am referring to.

While using the shampoo also make sure to massage your head for 4-5 minutes so the ingredients get absorbed by your scalp. This is a must.

Yes, chemical based shampoos can make your hair dry and those may lose the shine. With dandruff you have to use a 2% ketokonazole shampoo, and it’s chemical based as well. But, when you treat your scalp, it’s not actually working as a shampoo only but as a medicine.

And a doctor will always prescribe you to use it minimum 5 times a week. Even it’s better to use it for 7 days a week for the first week. And, you can keep reducing the use of it every week as your dandruff is reducing as well.

Use Oil Massage

I am a fan of Jamaican black castor oil. It’s work like a charm for stopping hair loss. It helps to regrow hair as well. And it’s help to get rid of dandruffs. I know it’s expensive compared to other oil! But it’s do magic if you can use it regularly.

If you want a cheaper alternative, then use organic coconut oil. But make sure, you hit the coconut oil before massaging. It should not be very hot because that may burn your scalp. Just mildly hot.

Again, don’t use those commercial coconut oil which come with 50% coconut oil and 50% fragrances and chemicals. Use 100% pure coconut oil without any kind of mixing.

What I did, I mixed rosemary essential oil with the bottle of Jamaican black castor oil and apply that 30-60 minutes before going to bed at night. 

I kept it on my head overnight and wash my head with shampoo in the morning.

Once the dandruff is almost gone you can reduce it to once a week. But at the start do it minimum 5 times a week.

Use Green Tea and Apple cider vinegar

Use a cup of water, a tea bag of green tea, two drops of rosemary essential oil and one teaspoon apple cider vinegar. 

Green tea, rosemary essential oil and apple cider vinegar all have the property to kill fungus. 

Rosemary essential oil decongestant qualities can reduce excess oil and flakes that can be a big cause behind dandruff. Apply this mix on your head and leave it for 30 to 60 minutes. After 60 minutes, wash your hair with normal tap water.

If you don’t want to use rosemary essential oil, you can use baking soda instead.

And, if you don’t want to use green tea, you can use aloe vera instead.

Apple cider vinegar is the main component of this mix. Also, try to use the Apple cider vinegar with the mother for the best result. 

Use it daily to wash your head at the evening. You can reduce the use of it each week as the dandruff getting reduced too.

Keep Your Scalp Hydrated

This is very important. Mostly at the winter, you will see the dandruffs are coming back.

What you need to do is keep your skin and hair naturally moisture by drinking plenty of water.

We usually need to drink more water during the winter season compared to summer, but we do completely opposite. Drink 1 glass of water every 1 hour will help to help your scalp to naturally moisture.


Hair Routine I followed

Now, how do I have followed the above methods? You need not to follow my path and you can create your own. But sharing my process may simplify it for you.

What I did is take the bath after waking up. I used the ketoconazole 2% shampoo while washing my head. And this is the complete morning routine.

Easy, ha?

At the evening, I used the apple cider vinegar and green tea mixture.

Before going to bed, I used the oil massage. 

And just repeat everything, everyday.

I have also started to drink a lot more water. It seems I was and still drinking 3-4 liters of water daily.

It took me around 1 and half months to get rid of from dandruff completely.

You may want to know my current hair routine! Which is very different! Because I had a hair transplant, and I went to regrow my hair after killing those dirty fungi from my head.
